Terms and conditions

The following terms and conditions apply to the booking of Bermuda Maritime Academy - training courses:

Payment Terms:
Our standard payment term is that payment is taken at booking - unless otherwise stated. If payment by invoice has been previously agreed, the payment for this is immediate - unless other arrangements have been previously agreed.

Deposits: Upon enquiry of the availability of the training spaces, a 50% deposit of the value of the course can be made. This will secure a place on the selected course. This deposit is non-refundable if a cancellation is made with less than 72 hours notice of the date of the course. If a payment has been made in full, and a cancellation is made with less than 72 hours notice, then a refund will be made minus 25%. Should circumstances mean that you need to transfer to another course date, this can be accommodated. There may be no loss of deposit.

Course bookings: Bookings can be made by email, via the BMA website, or telephone. Telephone bookings must be informed in writing upon request. Please quote purchase order numbers where applicable.

Non-Attendance: If you do not attend a course, and you have not previously informed us, the full course fee remains payable.

Late arrivals/missed sessions: If you arrive late for a course, or are absent from any session, BMA reserves the right to refuse to accept you for training if we feel that you gain insufficient knowledge or skill in the time remaining. In such cases, the full course fee remains payable. To conform with the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) requirements for certification, attendance at all sessions is mandatory.

Updated Proficiency Courses (Refresher Training):
To be eligible to attend Updated Proficiency Courses, students must present proof of the required pre-requisites for course attendance.

Unforeseen Circumstances:
On occasion, unforeseen circumstances may require us to cancel a course. In such circumstances you will be given as much notice as possible and either a free transfer to another course date or a full refund of fees paid.

Fair Processing: All information that BMA hold concerning you will be held and processed by BMA will be held in strict accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act. Such data will be used by the organisation to administer our relationship with you as a customer for future courses. We will not, without your consent, supply your name and addresses to any (other) third parties where (1) such transfer is a necessary part of the activities we undertake, or (2) we are required to do so by operation of law. As an individual, you have the right under the Data Protection Act 1998 to obtain information from us including a description of the data that we hold on you. Should you have any queries concerning this, please contact our Administration officers at the address on the bottom of these terms and conditions.
